States regulating automated decision-making tech
Recent state legislation focuses on regulating "automated decision-making technology" (ADMT) used to make certain decisions about consumers, including credit underwriting decisions. The California Consumer Privacy Act, for example, will now apply to a business's use of ADMT, which is defined in the California law as “any technology that processes personal information and uses computation to replace human decision-making.”  MORE ...

The House of Representatives has passed the Main Street Capital Access Act (H.R. 6955) in a 270-155 vote. The bill seeks to boost community banking through tailored regulation and by encouraging de novo bank formation. The legislation now heads to the Senate. MORE ...

Treasury blocking payments to deceased individuals
The Treasury Department and the Bureau of the Fiscal Service have announced the successful implementation of a new government-wide payment verification process that helps stop federal payments from being sent to deceased individuals. To date, Treasury has screened over 885 million payments totaling approximately $2.77 trillion as part of the new payment verification process. The screening has identified more than 4,900 payments worth approximately $99 million that were associated with deceased payees. MORE ...

Joint statement on handling sensitive info during examinations
The Federal Reserve Board, FDIC, and OCC have issued a joint "Statement regarding Coordinated Federal Banking Agency Approach for the Handling of Highly Sensitive Information During Examinations," such as reviewing materials on-site rather than transferring them onto agency systems. MORE ....
